Normality

We’re longing for a time when things go back to ‘normal’ beyond this pandemic, but what is ‘normal’? Many feel that God is calling for a recalibration, a time where we tune in and focus on Him and it seems clear that this hasn’t been the stance that we have all adopted as a nation, so when we pray for things to go back to normal what do we really mean?

I can’t equate the world’s former sense of ‘normality’ with being free. Especially if freedom looks like taking a step back to a time when our excuses felt justified; If ‘busyness’ was a universal language we understood and were bound to - the same language that made children feel like it’s ‘okay’ for their parents to not have much time for them because busyness was an expected way of life; If being able to dictate which activities fill our schedules gave us a false sense of control; If we felt like we had everything on lock so we didn’t feel a need to constantly put God at the forefront of everything or if spending time in the secret place with God was something that would comfortably go amiss.

My prayer during this time is that things don’t go back to normal, but we as a nation, we as the Church step out of this, still pursuing God, still seeking Him and still dwelling in that secret place and still recognising that we are mortal beings who can do nothing without God. It should be made clear by now that stockpiling has its limits. We need more than a full pantry for ultimate security, and I believe this is a time when more and more people realise that ultimately they cannot be their own provider nor sustainer. We rely on God because He is everything. I pray that we step out of this moving to greater heights in Him and reaching deeper depths with Him in Jesus name. I pray that our prayer lives will be not only be motivated by national crises, but we will be consistent and faithful in prayer as commanded.

Let us not just call upon God just because we want Him to act on behalf of our nation but let us call upon Him because we want Him. Truly hearts rendered towards God will bring deliverance for our nation.
